威廉·埃内斯特·亨利（Willaim Ernest Henley, 1849-1903）

Out of the night that covers me

Black as the pit from pole to pole

I thank whatever gods may be

For my unconquerable soul

In the fell clutch of circumstance

"Invictus"是拉丁文，（=unconquerable）意为不可征服，此诗是诗人在病榻上所作。
